Review

Itโ€™s pretty rare that I find anything in the genres of horror and true crime dramas disturbing to watch. Mostly because true-time dramas donโ€™t really encapsulate the horror and reality of the situation in a way that doesn't seem as if itโ€™s being presented to you instead of events just happening, and Iโ€™m pretty desensitized to onscreen violence in general as Iโ€™m pretty well baked in it. But the creators of Dahmer did a great job rising to the occasion removing any romanticism we have about serial killers and showing the dark and compulsive nature of the one and only, Jeff Dahmer.

Seriously, watching this just makes me feel like Iโ€™m trapped in a meat locker. It feels cold. Evan Peters goes to some dark places with the character and does such a good job of it, itโ€™s fair that he needed some therapy after playing such a role. A lot of crime dramas, especially ones based on real life tend to alter the people in these events to fit Hollywood-style aesthetics making them in one way or another attractive.ย  Dahmer takes a big step away from that here and focuses on the cold dark nature of a murderer, and the effect that they had on the families and the community in which they terrorized.

This is pretty hard to swallow knowing that this is a true story. Does that mean itโ€™s bad? Absolutely not.

No issues. Really, most things were practical and lighting effects.

The cast is perfect for the series, which is kind of scary.

Nothing is disjointed of unclear about the plot, but thatโ€™s to be expected with a dramatization of real-life events. Everything pretty much happens in an order that makes sense.

Not for me when it comes to this show. Iโ€™m not a fan of true crime, and I watched it once. Serial killers aren't really my kick.ย

Instead of listing this I give a warning. This pretty much has any trigger you can think of, from murder, police racism, murder, drug use to abuse and neglect. and significantly more. Be cautioned watching this, itโ€™s not for the faint of heart.

I would absolutely watch this if you're a fan of true crime, or have a fascination with the history of serial killers in the U.S. It's unfortunate, but it's a prevelant and interesting one.
